Milky Way in the Bonanza 250 Growbox – Part 5

By: Kevin, June 6, 2017

17-5-2017, Stretch out

The plant has been stretching out considerably in the past week. The distance between the internodes has increased dramatically. An internode is the point on the stem where two side branches shoot out. I have always found this a strange phenomenon but I have seen it so often that I am convinced that there is a connection between reducing the amount of hours of light that the plant receives and the huge stretch of the plant in the first week that they still have only 12 hours light. As if they get a signal that this is the last chance to make a few more meters before the flowering and growth stagnates.

The Milky Way on 17-5-2017,the plant is already growing above the bottom half of the box.

Last week, as you may remember, I topped the plant on a few places. I cut the head shot just above an internode. I had already told you that the growth that the two remaining side branches will make in a week would amaze you. I am also surprised and did not expect so much growth either. The branches are now more than 30 cm long. Last week only a few centimeters. This week there were no first signs of bloom visible. This will change soon.

What is more noticeable is that the side shoots are not round but hexagonal. How it is possible, or if it is a feature of this kind, I don’t honestly know. When you stroke your fingers through the leaves, you can already smell a heavy potent weed air. I’m already looking forward to it.

The point where I removed the main shoot last week.

The plant fills the Bonanza nicely and will soon be removed from the box.

The Bonanza 250 grow box in the Kiwiseeds store has Plexiglas doors so everyone can see the growing. That is a lot of fun but also dangerous. A blooming plant needs absolute darkness during the OFF light period. This means that the box must be darkened when the shop closes and the 250-Watt lamp shuts off. For this I use a temporary black canvas curtain. Simple, but effective. But you can of course wait for someone to forget to hang the curtain in front of the box. Hopefully this will not have too much negative impact on the blooming.

The fun of this “public grow report” is that I always meet people and talk to them in the store. What strikes me the most is that these are people from all layers of the population. Young, old, men, women, Dutch, foreigners, higher educated, lower educated. Really everything. They have a common divider and that is that they all grow a few weed plants. For recreational use or medical use but never for money. Unknowingly, I had a picture of a somewhat alternative type of person. I was really pleasantly surprised by the fact that growing a weed plant is becoming common good.

Next week, the Milky Way will have been fully grown and there will surely be the first signs of tops. I think that will turn up some nice pictures. So keep watching! See you next week!
