The new law to facilitate the process to prescribe medical cannabis from March 2017, once again gave the German cannabis industry a strong burst of growth. According to the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM), cannabis from cultivation in Germany should be available by 2019. A total of 117 companies have applied to tender for domestic cannabis cultivation.
Network & Business in the Cannabis Ondustry
European market leaders as well as small companies and start-ups coming from Germany and all over the world will be exhibiting in the central „Arena Halle“, directly on the banks of the river Spree in the district of Alt-Treptow. The number of exhibitors grew again compared to the previous year (2017: 150) to around 170 companies. With the release of medical cannabis, foreign companies are increasingly showing interest in the German cannabis market. Especially international companies from the USA, Canada, Israel and Holland will be represented. With the growing interest in the German cannabis market, “Mary Jane Berlin” has quickly become Germany’s most important platform for establishing business contacts and networks within the industry. At the same time, the expo is regarded as the most important communication channel to the consumer. Interested parties have the opportunity to inform themselves about current trends and market dynamics.
In addition to the trade expo, national and international experts will discuss cannabis cultivation, legalization developments and the medical use of cannabis. The latter, in particular, will be extensively illuminated this year by renowned doctors such as Dr. med. Franjo Grotenhermen and Dr. med. Eva Milz. In addition, the German Hemp Association provides an overview of the current medical law in Germany and the awarding of cultivation licenses. Breeds, selections and the requirements for the medical cultivation of cannabis are also treated under the aspect. Rick Simpson, the inventor of the oil of the same name, was recently among the international experts.
Besides the exhibition, visitors can enjoy the good weather on the outdoor area overlooking the river. The outdoor Mary Jane Berlin Festival with live music, DJs and numerous culinary (cannabis) highlights at the food stands make this overall event between 8 and 10 June 2018 definitely unique.
